INTRODUCTION
WATSONS are independent bookmakers of over 40 years standing and
have enjoyed continuous membership of the NAB (National
Association of Bookmakers) during this time. Thus you can be assured
of efficiency and integrity with all your transactions. We regard our size
as an asset in that it gives us added flexibility and we believe, also means
we can provide a more personal service to our customers, rather than
say, a large public company.
Every day our staff process hundreds of bets, many just before the
‘off ’ without any problem whatsoever. Very occasionally, a query or
dispute may arise and a set of rules to which we can refer, is therefore
necessary in order that the query or dispute can hopefully be amicably
settled.
In the first instance the Duty Manager will deal with any of your
queries but in the event you are unable to settle the matter at that level
then please ask to speak to our General Manager at
Customer Services on 0845 270 5661 preferably prior to the
commencement of racing. In the event the matter is still not resolved to
your satisfaction then please write to:
Andrew Watson, Watson Bookmakers, Unit 1, Evans Business Centre,
Queensferry Road, Dunfermline, UK KY11 8UU.
It is in everyone’s interests that any dispute is settled quickly and amicably
therefore your query will be given our immediate attention. On the
extremely rare occasion when the matter cannot be resolved between
us within a reasonable time, customers can refer to the Independent
Betting Arbitration Service (IBAS) whose decision will be final providing
the full facts are presented by all the parties concerned. Their contact
details are as follows:
IBAS, PO Box 62639, London EC3P 3AS Tel: 0207 347 5883

4. DOUBLES,TREBLES,ACCUMULATORS
These are accepted Win and Each-Way. Each-Way doubles, trebles and accumulative
bets etc. are calculated on a WIN to WIN, PLACE to PLACE basis, e.g. as
separate Win and Place transactions.
5. FAVOURITES
First and Second Favourites WIN ONLY are accepted in singles, doubles, trebles,
accumulators. Where two or more start at the same price, the stakes will be divided.
The first favourite is the horse quoted in the Starting Price returns at the shortest
price. If there are two horses at the shortest price, they are joint first and second
favourites and in the case of three horses at the shortest price they are joint
first, second and third favourites. Un-named Third favourites are not accepted and
any taken in error will be void and stakes returned.Where a customer inadvertently
bets an un-named favourite each way then the win part of the bet will stand but
the place part will be void and the place stake refunded, win or lose.
6. JOCKEYS’ MOUNTS
Bets on Jockeys’ Mounts are accepted and the numbers of doubles, trebles or
accumulators must be specified. If a Client selects three doubles and a treble on a
nominated jockey’s mounts with no time or races specified and he has more than
three mounts the bets will be settled in proportion. If he has only two rides the
bet will be settled as if the third selection was non-runner. Doubles, trebles etc.,
on a Jockey’s Mounts where he is riding at two meetings in one day (including
evening racing) and no meeting is specified will be executed at the first meeting
at which he rides after the wager is received. Where a single bet is placed concerning
a Jockey’s Mount and it is un-timed it will be taken for the next advertised
race to be run in which that Jockey has a mount. This settling also applies to
Owners and Trainers selected.Through the Card Bets will be settled for all possible
races at that meeting.
7. OWNERS AND TRAINERS SELECTED
These wagers are accepted at Starting Price. The ‘Selected’ is the horse starting at
the shortest price and if two or more start at the same price the stakes will be
divided. Where such selections are backed in accumulative bets they will be settled
in the same manner as Jockeys’ Mounts.
8. GREYHOUND RACING
a)We accept bets Win or Each-Way at Starting Price and Board Price at all meetings
which are run under the auspices of the Bookmakers Afternoon Greyhound
Services (BAGS) and covered live by SIS and for meetings covered by full form in
the Racing Post. Bets are also accepted for such other meetings which are nominated
or as advertised from time to time in a branch or the press. - see also rule
1c covering the acceptance of greyhound bets. Bets accepted for greyhound meetings
which have not been specified will be declared void win or lose.
b) Bets at Greyhound Tote Returns are not acceptable but if placed in error, will
be settled as follows:
FORECASTS – as the SP Computer Forecasts returned. If no SP Computer
Forecast is returned and if no special pre-race forecast betting has been specifically
made available/advertised then the forecast will be made void.
WIN AND EACH-WAY BETS – at Starting prices.
PLACE ONLY BETS – stake halved and treated as an each-way bet at SP odds.
If no Starting price is returned, bets will be void. Unless otherwise requested a
‘through the card’ commission will be settled for the number of races advertised.
c) Favourites – First and Second Favourites only are accepted, win only in singles,
doubles, trebles and accumulators.Third favourites are not accepted and any taken
in error will be void.
d) Forecasts – Bets are accepted for single forecasts, forecast doubles, forecast trebles.
Forecast accumulators are only accepted when contained in a Forecast
Yankee bet. Forecast bets will be settled at the Starting Price Computer ‘Straight
Forecast’ dividend unless special forecast odds are specifically advertised or available.
In the event of one selection in a Forecast or Forecast Double being a nonrunner
then the stakes in that particular race will go on the remaining selection
for a win. In the case of non-runner in a Forecast Treble the stake will be split on
the remaining selections and settled as a forecast double.
e) Each-Way Betting at Starting Price and Board Prices
In all races of four runners or less: the place money goes on to win. In races of
five, six and seven runners: one-quarter the odds the first two places. In races of
eight or more runners: one-fifth the odds the first three places.
f) Void races – In the event of any race being declared void and not re-run all
selections will be treated as non-runners, including favourites. Where a race is rerun
all bets concerning that race will stand for the re-run at Starting Price unless
mutually called off before the re-run.
g) Withdrawals - Where an early price or board price is taken and then any dog
is withdrawn from the race then all bets placed prior to the withdrawal will be
settled at SP.
For the purpose of convenience the rules under this section apply specifically to
Greyhound Racing, but all rules with regard to the general conduct of business
apply equally to greyhounds as to horse racing.
9.THE OFF
a) We accept bets up to the “off ” on horse and greyhound racing. Subject to our
discretion we may accept bets on horseracing up to a maximum 15 seconds after
the “off ” but any bet inadvertently accepted after this time will be void except
where prior authorisation is specifically given. Any bet inadvertently accepted after
an event has finished will be void. Where we offer a “betting in running” market
such as a Live TV football match then bets are accepted after the “off ” and the
correct price ruling at that time will govern settlement of the wager. Please note
that “betting in running” odds can be suspended from time to time and in a case
where this occurs and no betting is available, the odds laid will be those immediately
available after the wager was struck.
b) Where the official “off ” of a race/event is not announced then bets are accepted
up to the advertised start time. Any bet that is inadvertently accepted after
this time will be void unless we are satisfied that the bet was placed before the
actual start of the event.
c) Exceptions to rule b) above, are football matches where the bet will stand up
to 15 mins after the start providing there have been no goals scored or players
sent off; golf events up to 15 mins after start time and the following sporting
events up to 5 mins after start time – American football, baseball, basketball, tennis,
snooker/pool, rugby, motor sports, speedway, ice hockey, bowls, cycling, darts,
cricket, hurling.
10. STARTING PRICE COMPUTER STRAIGHT FORECASTS
a) Bets are accepted for single forecasts, forecast doubles and forecast trebles.
Forecast accumulators are also accepted but only when contained in a Forecast
Yankee Bet. All Forecasts will be settled in accordance with the SP Computer
Straight Forecast given by the SIS Sports Service or published in ‘The Racing Post’
If a Client specifically asks for a Tote Forecast then Tote Odds will apply.
In Horseracing and in the event that a Computer Straight Forecast is not available
then Tote Odds will apply. In Greyhound Racing where no SP is returned and/or
no Computer Straight Forecast is available then greyhound forecast bets will be
void. Un-named favourites are not accepted in forecasts and where inadvertently
placed in error, the bet will be made void and stakes returned. This also applies to
Greyhound betting.
b) If any bet is inadvertently accepted with the instructions ‘D/F’ or ‘Dual Forecast’
the bet will be settled, in the case of Horseracing & Greyhound racing as an SP
Computer reversed forecast with the stake being split and paid to the dividend
declared.
c) Bets for horserace forecasts outside the British Isles will be settled at Pari-
Mutuel returns unless special forecast odds are otherwise advertised.
d) Forecasts inadvertently accepted in races with only two runners will be settled
as a win single on the selection nominated to finish first.
e) In races where a horse finishes alone, all forecast bets nominating that horse to
finish 1st will be settled as a win single at SP. All other forecast bets are lost.
f) Non-Runners - In the event of one selection in a Forecast or Forecast Double
being a non-runner then the stakes in that particular race will go on the remaining
selection for a win. In the case of a non-runner in a Forecast Treble the stake
will be split on the remaining selections and settled as a forecast double.
As rule 4 deduction is taken into account with the Computer Forecast no further
deductions will be made.
11. BOARD PRICES AND EARLY BIRD PRICES
Board Prices are laid in any race of two or more runners. ‘Bar Prices’ or advance
shows e.g. ‘First Show’ before the show is known may be laid at our discretion.
Should a horse or dog be withdrawn then no Board Prices will be laid after the
time of withdrawal unless the market is re-formed. Should there be a transmission
error subsequently corrected by the SIS (or equivalent) Sports Service the bet will
stand at the corrected price. Where a palpable error is made by SIS or any other
employee the bet will stand at the correct price ruling at the time the bet was
struck or the Starting Price whichever be the greater odds. A Board or Early Price
taken about a selection will be applied to that selection in all bets on the slip unless
the client specifically requests otherwise. If you wish to take a Board or Early Price
please inform the cashier/telephonist who will record the price on your slip prevailing
at the time of checking the monitor. Should a change of show be in progress
when you request a price the cashier/telephonist is instructed to wait until the
race show ends before marking the current price. Unless a price is verified by a
member of our staff, bets will be settled at SP odds. In the event you take a
board price or early price and a horse is subsequently withdrawn then a deduction
may apply – see rule 14 WITHDRAWALS. For the rule appertaining to withdrawals
in dog racing – see rule 8.g) Greyhound Racing. All Board prices or Early
Prices are subject to fluctuation.
Where a palpable error in respect of a price for any event, sporting or otherwise,
is made by any of our staff or as a result of a wrongly transmitted price
across our screens or computer systems, we reserve the right to rectify the
error when it comes to our attention.
12. GUARANTEED ODDS RACE(S)
We normally offer Guaranteed Odds on races at each UK Horserace meeting
taking place daily. Please enquire as to the races offered. Where we offer guaranteed
odds on any particular race, customers who take an Early Price are guaranteed
that price or SP whichever is the greater. e.g. take 5/1 Early Price on a selection
in a guaranteed odds race and if it wins at 10/1 starting price we pay you the
10/1. If there are any withdrawals and rule 4 applies, customers will receive the
price after rule 4 or SP whichever is the greater.
13.WITHDRAWALS
In all horse races, excluding Ante-Post Bets, if a horse is withdrawn without coming
under starter’s orders, it is treated as a non-runner. If there is insufficient time
to form a new market, a deduction is made from all winnings (excluding stakes) in
accordance with Tattersall’s Rule 4 (c). The following scale of deductions apply
dependent upon the current odds against the withdrawn horse.
Price at time of withdrawal Amount deducted from winnings
1/9 or longer 90p in the £
2/11 to 2/17 85p in the £
1/4 to 1/5 80p in the £
3/10 to 2/7 75p in the £
2/5 to 1/3 70p in the £
8/15 to 4/9 65p in the £
8/13 to 4/7 60p in the £
4/5 to 4/6 55p in the £
20/21 to 5/6 50p in the £
Evens to 6/5 45p in the £
5/4 to 6/4 40p in the £
13/8 to 7/4 35p in the £
15/8 to 9/4 30p in the £
5/2 to 3/1 25p in the £
10/3 to 4/1 20p in the £
9/2 to 11/2 15p in the £
6/1 to 9/1 10p in the £
10/1 to 14/1 5p in the £
As a concession Watsons make no deduction if there is only a total deduction of
5p but this does not apply to bets struck on course where all deductions will be made.
If over 14/1 there would be no deduction. In the case of two or more horses
being withdrawn before coming under starters’ orders the total deduction shall
not exceed 90p in the £.The above deductions will equally apply to our ‘Early Bird’
and ‘Board Prices’ where they are taken before a withdrawal takes place and a new
market has not been formed.
14. UP AND DOWN BETS
Up & down bets will be taken as ‘up and down’ single stakes only. Clients requiring ‘up
and down’ double stakes must clearly state this fact for each separate wager. If two
horses in the same race are backed in an ‘up and down’ wager the bet becomes two
singles, unless either horse is doubly engaged which will time the race. Each-Way SSA
and DSA will be settled as each-way singles on each selection ‘up and down’ and not
as separate win and place bets. When there is insufficient cash in hand to invest the
full stake each way then the win part will be settled first and any remaining stake
invested on the place bet, unless the client clearly requests ‘equally divided’ settlement,
in which case the cash in hand will be divided equally between win and place.
We only accept cross over bets on horse and greyhound racing and where accepted
in error on other sports the cross over part of any bet will be void. The maximum
that can be crossed is double your unit stake.
15.ANY TO COME BETS
This type of bet continues until the stake plus winnings are exhausted. When the
bets are made any-to-come each-way singles and there is insufficient stake money
in hand to cover all the selections, the win stake will be invested on the first single,
then the place stake will be invested on the first single and so on for all subsequent
selections. All any-to-come bets are dealt with on this principle. When there is insufficient
stake money in hand to cover reversed or combination forecasts in any one
race, the amount will be equally divided amongst the forecasts involved. It must state
distinctly from which horse or horses the any-to-come is taken. Any-to-come bets
on to a forecast double must not exceed the original stake. Cash in hand from one
horse cannot go on to the same horse or selection or race in any circumstances.
16.AMBIGUOUS BET INSTRUCTIONS
a) Insufficient Selections – Should fewer than the required number of selections be
given for the number of doubles, trebles, accumulators etc. then a non-runner or
non-runners will be substituted.
b) Insufficient Cash – Should insufficient cash be staked on a coupon or betting slip
then the amount staked will be apportioned equally over the bet e.g. a bet totalling
£20 placed but only £10 staked then the bet will be settled as 50% of the correct
returns.
c) Incorrectly Timed and Un-Timed Wagers, Un-Named Selections –The following
apply for both horse and greyhound wagers:
i. Where a client specifies a named selection then the name will stand as the selection,
irrespective of whether it is incorrectly timed or numbered in any way.
ii. Where a selection is timed for a race that has already been decided the selection
will be treated as a non-runner
iii) Should the time & meeting only be stated with no selection given then it will
be taken for the favourite in the next race at that time. Should there be more
than one race at that time then the stake will be apportioned accordingly.
d) Doubly Engaged – Where a named selection is doubly engaged and is timed by
the client it will be considered a wager for the race timed only.Where the selection
is un-timed or timed incorrectly the wager will be taken as for the first race in which
the selection runs.
e) Selections Repeated – Where the same selection is included more than once in
a multiple bet, the second or subsequent times it appears it will be treated as a nonrunner.
If you include two or more different selections in the same race or event in
a multiple bet, stakes will be divided equally in all parts of the bet where the selections
clash. If however one of the two selections that clash is also declared for another
race on that day, then the wager will be settled as if timed for the race in which
the selections could not clash.
f) Suffix – Where two horses which are only differentiated by the suffix of the country
of their origin run on the same day, wagers will be settled on the time given for
the horse concerned. Similarly should a horse be doubly engaged it will be settled
on the time given and be treated as a non runner for the other race. Should no time
be given then you will be on the first horse to run after acceptance. If however, one
of the two horses had run before the wager was accepted then the bet will be considered
as being for the horse still to run. The same principle will apply to a horse
and greyhound having the same name.
17.TRICASTS
a) Tricasts are accepted in horse and dog races for which an Official Computer
Tricast is declared, such return being declared for successfully nominating three selections
to finish first, second and third in the correct order.
b) The official tricast dividend declared to a £1 unit will govern the settlement of all
tricasts.
c) In the event that a non-runner is selected in a tricast the stake will be invested as a
Computer Straight Forecast on the remaining two selections in the order written with
the non-runner being discounted.Where selections for a tricast include two non-runners
the stake will be invested on the remaining selection as a win single.
d) Tricasts will be accepted for named and numbered selections. Un-named
favourites will be treated as non-runners.
e) Tricasts are accepted in singles only but if accepted inadvertently in error, e.g. tricast
doubles or trebles etc., the total stakes will be divided and invested equally as
tricast singles on the selections concerned.
f) Should a Tricast be taken for a race for which no official computer tricast is
returned, settlement will be as follows:
i.Where the three selections run, the stake will be invested as a Computer
Straight Forecast on the selections nominated to finish first and second with
the selection for the third place being discounted.
ii. If the selections include one or more non-runners, settlement will be made in
accordance with rule (c) above.
g) We may accept Tri-Casts on other events if specifically advertised
18.TOTE DIRECT BETTING

Great Britain and Ireland and all bets are transmitted to Tote Direct and are placed
under Tote Direct’s rules. We accept the following:

at the nominated meeting. The Jackpot normally takes place at one meeting Monday
to Sunday inclusive.
Quadpot
The Quadpot is usually run on the last four placepot races of any Placepot meeting.
To Win the Quadpot you must pick a horse to be placed in each of these races.
Normal Placepot rules apply to the Quadpot excepting that above.
Trifecta
You must select the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in correct order in the races which are specially
designated each day for this purpose.
Exacta
They are accepted on all races of 3 runners and upwards and the Customer has to
forecast the 1st and 2nd in correct order.
Win, Each Way and Place Only
These bets are also accepted at Tote Odds with the place structure the same as
SP bets – see rule 2. All Tote dividends with the exception of the Scoop 6 are
declared to a £1 unit.
Scoop 6
This is accepted on six specially nominated races, normally every Saturday. There
is a Win Dividend for all six winners, a Place Dividend for all six placed and an
opportunity to win a further special bonus dividend if you pick the six winners.

IMPORTANT
All Tote Bets accepted are ‘NO LIMIT’ on the basis that they are transmitted correctly
via the Tote Direct Terminal and included into the Tote Pools that day. Please allow a minimum 15 minutes before the first selection runs to place Placepot, Jackpot & Scoop 6 bets. Should
any bet, for any reason, technical or otherwise be found not to be included in the
pool then the following will apply:
a) Tote Jackpot – This will be treated as an SP Win Accumulator
Scoop 6 – This will be treated as an each-way SP Accumulator
(£2 Scoop 6 =£1 e.w. acc)
Both the above two bets will, in the above instance(s) be subject to our normal
maximum payouts.
b) Tote Placepots, Quadpots,Trifectas, Exactas, Win and Place – These will be settled
on their respective Tote Dividends declared for that day but will be subject to
a total Maximum Payout of £5,000 to any one client on any one day regardless of
stakes.
c) Where any item is not covered by Tote Direct’s Rules then our rules of betting
will apply. Other Tote Bets which may be introduced from time to time, will also
be subject to the rules above.
19.ANTE-POST BETTING
a) Ante-Post Bets are those offered on the following:
i) Horse Racing prior to the final declaration stage
ii) Greyhound events up to and including the semi-final stage. Any bets accepted
after the semi-finals or on a single race event where a price has been
taken will be settled as Early Bird bets and stakes refunded on non runners.
In the event of a non runner all bets will be settled at starting price.
iii) Sports events prior to the start of the event, with the exception of bets on
a match, a single race event (e.g. Oxford v Cambridge boat race) or an individual
heat/stage.
iv) All special (non-sporting) events.
b) Ante post bets are accepted on the principle that you lose your stakes if your
selection does not participate. Stakes are therefore lost on competitors/teams
who start an event and then withdraw. No Tattersall’s Rule 4 deductions are made
from winning bets except when a runner in a horse race is balloted out. In the
event of a subsequent withdrawal Tattersall’s Rule 4 (c) will apply.
c) Where there has been Ante-Post betting on a race which does not actually take
place, all single wagers on that race are void. If a horse is balloted out under the
Jockey Club Rule 125, single wagers on that horse are void. In such circumstances,
accumulative Ante-Post bets (win or place) will stand and be settled at the accumulative
Ante-Post prices laid on the remaining horse(s). In the event of a race
being postponed, bets will be decided in accordance with Tattersall’s ruling.
d) Where the same selection is backed to win two or more events in an Ante-
Post accumulative bet, clients should note that specially reduced odds will apply
and these odds will govern settlement. Should an Ante-Post bet be inadvertently
accepted by our staff where the same selection is taken to win two or more
events without the reduced odds being applied, we reserve the right to rectify the
situation when it is brought to our attention. The correct reduced odds applying
at the time the bet was placed will govern settlement.
e)Where a palpable error is made in transmission of any Ante-Post price over our
screen system or by our computer system or by a member of our staff giving out
an incorrect price, we reserve the right to correct the error whenever it should
come to our notice.
f) No consolations or bonuses are paid on any Ante-Post wagers even if placed
on a speciality bet e.g. Lucky 15 etc.
g) In the event of a race being postponed to another day: Ante-Post bets placed
before the entries have closed will stand and only be made void if the race is abandoned
or made void, if the horse is balloted out/eliminated under the Jockey Club
Rules of Racing, or if the venue is changed. Ante-Post bets placed after the entries+
have closed will be void, except when the race is run at a later date at the same
venue and entries for the race are not re-opened, in which case bets would stand.
When staking Ante-Post wagers, we advise Clients to take account of our maximum
payout limit.
20. OVERSEAS RACING
The following are intended for guidance only in countries where there is no SP
market in operation. In these circumstances bets are accepted at Pari-Mutuel
returns subject to the limitations shown below:
a) Win and Each-Way Bets – The place part of which will be settled in accordance
with the returned dividends. Horses in the same ownership are generally coupled
on the WIN POOL only.
b) In countries where additional Place Pools operate e.g. USA, the place portion
of the bet will be settled in accordance with the ‘123 Show Pool’ unless Place Pool
is specifically requested.
c) Straight or Dual Forecasts are accepted depending on the type of forecast in
operation. Should the instructions be for a Straight or Reversed Forecast and a
Dual Forecast is returned then the total stake will be invested as a Dual Forecast.
Should the instruction be for a Dual Forecast and a Straight Forecast is returned
then the stake will be divided and settled as a Reversed Straight Forecast.
d) Un-named favourites and Jockey’s Mounts are not accepted and if taken in
error the selection will be settled as a non-runner and the stake returned.
e) Board Prices and UK Industry Starting Prices may be offered for certain feature
races abroad. Where a ‘UK industry SP’ is available then all starting price wagers
will automatically be settled at that ‘Industry SP’. Should you alternatively wish the
Pari-Mutuel returns, e.g. the Foreign SP, then you should state ‘Pari-Mutuel’ when
you place Your bet. In cases where no ‘UK Industry SP’ is available then all starting
price wagers will be settled at the Pari-Mutuel returns.
f) All bets on “Foreign Racing” e.g. racing held outside the UK and Ireland, are
accepted on the basis that the “official result” only will apply to all wagers, no “First
Past the Post” or “Double Result Concession” will be paid.
g) Not all foreign racing operates a Pari-mutuel, e.g. South Africa operates similar
to the UK and Board Prices may be taken.
h) Where “Guide Prices” only are given, Board Prices are normally available to
stakes up to £100. Sums over this amount subject to our discretion – please
enquire.
i) Forecast betting – at time of print the following applies:
French Racing Italian Racing

– no Forecast available – no Forecast available
4 – 7 Runners 4 – 5 Runners
– Straight Forecast only – Straight Forecast only
8+ Runners 6+ Runners
– Dual Forecast only – Dual Forecast only
Please note that in some rare cases when horses are coupled in 8 runner races in
France or 6 runner races in Italy, straight forecasts only will be allowed. SIS (or
equivalent) will clearly flag up such occasions. In the event the foreign racing
authorities alter any of their bet acceptance terms from the above, then bets will
be settled under their new terms.
21. IRISH LOTTERY
We accept bets on the Irish Lottery where six numbers and a bonus ball are normally
drawn on Wednesday and Saturday each week on RTE (Irish TV). Customers
select one, two, three, four or five numbers from the six drawn or they may also
include the bonus ball.
a) Bets settled at accumulative odds. Odds are subject to fluctuation.
b) Only numbers from 1 to 45 are allowed. Odds will apply to the valid numbers
only. For example, if a bet on the ‘3 numbers correct’ section comprises two numbers
and a void number, this bet will be settled on the odds applicable to the ‘2 numbers
correct’ section. If a Customer takes the same number twice the second or subsequent
time it is selected it will be treated as a void number and settled accordingly.
c) If for any reason a draw does not take place, bets will stand for the next specified
available draw unless cancelled by mutual consent.
d) When a ‘Wednesday’ or ‘Saturday’ draw is selected, but the bet accepted after
the corresponding day’s draw has taken place, the bet will be settled on the next
nominated Wednesday or Saturday draw to take place.
e) When ‘Both Days’ draws are selected, the bet will always be settled on the next
two consecutive Wednesday or Saturday draws to take place after the bet has
been accepted. On occasions when two or more draws take place on the same
day, bets will be settled on the first (main) draw unless specified otherwise.
f) When neither ‘Wednesday’ ‘Saturday’ nor both days is selected, the bet will be
settled on the first draw to take place after the bet has been accepted.
g) Irish Lottery bets may not be coupled with any other betting event nor may
two or more draws be combined in accumulative bets.
h) No additional bonuses, consolation dividends or double the odds will be paid
on the Irish Lottery Bet
i) All bets will be deemed to be on the 6 number draw unless otherwise stated.
j) Bets are accepted on one, two, three, four and five numbers at the current odds.
Multiple bets and perms are also accepted. For example you may bet doubles,
three doubles & one treble, a yankee, super yankee etc. Bets are not accepted
on six numbers and if taken in error the stakes will be apportioned over five
numbers. e.g. a £1 bet on Six Numbers will be settled as 6 x 16.5p fivefolds on
the six numbers stated.
k) Results are broadcast live on SIS and are available shortly after the event.
l) Currently Three Draws take place each Wednesday and Saturday. All bets will
be settled on the First Draw each Wednesday and Saturday unless the customer
clearly indicates “Draw 2” or “Second Draw” or “Draw 3” or “Third Draw”.
m) The advertised time of the Irish Lottery draw is “around 8.00pm”, therefore
the latest time for acceptance of any Irish lottery bet is 7.45pm on a Wednesday
and a Saturday. Any bet inadvertently accepted after this time will be void, win or
lose and stakes refunded.
n) Any understaked bet will be settled proportionately.
o) Our rules will apply to any situations not covered by the above “Irish Lottery” rules.
22. DAILY 49’S NUMBERS BET
We accept bets on the Daily 49’s numbers game. Six numbers and a “Booster”
(bonus ball) are drawn from balls marked 1-49 and the Customer may select one,
two, three, four and five numbers and receive the odds accordingly.
a) Bets are accepted on the ‘49’s’ events up to the official start time broadcast on
SIS. Any bet accepted after this time will be void, except where we offer ‘in-running’
opportunities.
b) When a specific draw time is selected e.g. ‘lunchtime’ or ‘teatime’ but the bet
accepted after the corresponding day’s event has taken place, the bet will be settled
on the next ‘lunchtime or ‘teatime’ draw to take place.
c)When ‘both’ draws are selected the bet will always be settled on the next two
events to take place after the bet has been accepted.
d) When neither ‘Lunchtime’ ‘Teatime’ nor ‘both’ is selected, the bet will be settled
on the first event to take place after the bet has been accepted.
e) The number of draws will be determined by the ‘No of days’ requested. e.g. if
both Lunchtime and Teatime draws are selected for the next five days then the
bet stands for the next 5 consecutive lunchtime and teatime draws.
f) If for any reason an event does not take place, bets will stand for the next available
‘49s’ event unless cancelled by mutual consent.
g) Where a 6-fold is inadvertently accepted on any 49’s event, it will be settled as
6 x fivefolds e.g. a £1 bet on 6 numbers will be settled as 6 x 16.6p fivefolds on
the six selections. with the stake proportioned. Multiple bets are also accepted on
a single ‘49’s’ event, for example trixies, patents, yankees, super yankees. ‘49s’ Bets
will not qualify for consolations or bonuses if placed on our range of speciality bets
e.g. Lucky 15 etc.
h) ‘49’s’ bets cannot be combined with any other betting event, nor may two or
more events be combined in accumulative bets.
i) If a Customer takes the same number twice the second or subsequent time it

j) Results are broadcast live on SIS and are available on www.49s.co.uk or by calling our office.
k)We would point out to Customers that SIS normally operate 49’s draws on a
Sunday. Customers betting a number of draws on the 49’s will automatically have
the Sunday Draws included. If a Customer places a 49’s bet on the Friday morning
for the next six draws (given there are two draws daily) they will be on the
Friday, Saturday and Sunday Draws.
l) Any understaked bet will be settled proportionately. Due to the high odds
obtainable on some numbers betting we advise Customers to have regard to the
relevant maximum payouts when staking wagers.
m) Our rules will apply to any situations not covered by the above ‘49s’ rules.
23. RAPIDO
We do not accept Rapido bets through our telephone betting service and any
accepted in error will be made void.
24.VIRTUAL RACING
We accept bets on “Virtual Racing” where computer simulated races are shown
by SIS. Form is shown in the Racing Post and the SP’s are announced by SIS with
each-way bets being settled on the same place terms as for live racing.
a) Computer straight forecasts and Tri-casts are accepted with dividends declared
to a £1 stake.
b) Un-named favourites are accepted.
c) Where a customer makes a selection, either by name or number and times it
for a race that has already been decided then the bet will be void, win or loose
and stakes refunded.
d) Multiple bets are accepted in the same way as for “actual live racing” and any
speciality bet available for “actual live racing” can also be placed for “Virtual Racing”
e.g. our “multiplus yankee” slip and our “strike lucky” bet are accepted with any
additional bonuses and consolodations being paid.
25. FOOTBALL
Clients may choose from TWO Midweek & TWO Weekend Coupons,‘ Watson’s
Super Soccer’ or ‘Watson’s Top Chance” Singles upwards are accepted on both
our Super Soccer coupon and Top Chance Coupon. Where no specific coupon
or odds is quoted by either the client or the telephonist/cashier then bets will
automatically be settled on our Super Soccer coupon odds available on this website.
a) Odds will be dependent upon which coupon you choose.
b) All football bets on games for which we quote prices for home, away, draw,
correct scores, first/last goalscorer, scorer at any time etc. will be settled on 90
minutes play (e.g. full time) at the prices advertised with multiple bets being
settled at accumulative odds. Extra time, penalty shoot-outs etc. do not count on
the above.Sometimes we may be quoting special odds on a team to win at any
time e.g. ‘to qualify’ or ‘to win cup’ etc. If you wish to bet at these odds you
must make your instructions clear on your slip or when telephoning otherwise 90
minutes play (full time) will apply.
c) In the event that a bet is inadvertently accepted for which no odds are being
quoted then that match alone will be treated as a non-runner.
d) Settlement of any match will be on the basis of the odds prevailing at the time
the bet was placed irrespective of the price printed on any coupon. Every effort
will be made to bring any price changes to the attention of our customers but we
cannot accept responsibility for the failure of our staff to do so.
e) If a match is abandoned before 90 minutes playing time (full time) has elapsed
that particular match will be void and wagers will stand on the remaining selections
in any bet (see rule i below for further details). Bets originally containing the
correct minimum number of selections but including void or postponed matches
will stand on the remaining selections in the bet.
f) SELECTIONS
Selections must be indicated by the symbols ‘1’ to indicate a win for the team on
the left (home team), ‘X’ for a draw and ‘2’ to indicate a win for the team printed
on the right (away team). In the event of a match being played on a neutral ground
the team printed on the left will be regarded as the home side and the team printed
on the right as the away side. Bets will be accepted up to the advertised kickoff
time. If a bet is inadvertently accepted which includes a match after it’s kick-off
time then the bet will stand up to 15 mins after kickoff time, providing no goals
have been scored. Any match outwith the 15 mins timeframe will be treated as a
non-runner and the remaining selections settled, irrespective of any minimum
requirements unless we are “betting in running” when the current odds will apply.
Where a team is scheduled to play two or more matches within the same week,
bets which do not nominate the date of the match will be settled for the match
in which the selection plays first.
g) MINIMUM SELECTIONS
The minimum number of selections required on each list of our football coupons
is normally advertised at the head of each of the lists on each coupon. In general,
and unless otherwise advertised, Singles upwards will apply. In the event that a
Customer makes a number of selections on a Sections List that are less than
advertised on the list the bet will stand providing it is obtainable on any other list
on the coupon. A line which does not meet the minimum requirements will be
void or reduced to include only the valid selections. In football betting where a
“treble” is the stated minimum then at least three football matches must be selected
for the bet to be valid. Mixing one or two football matches with other sporting
events does not constitute a treble and should any bet inadvertently be
accepted which contravenes this rule the football selection(s) will be settled as a
non-runner(s) and the bet settled on the remaining selections, again taking
account of any minimum selection requirements. This principle will similarly apply
to other sporting betting where minimum selection rules apply.
h) MAXIMUM SELECTIONS
There is no maximum limit to the number of ‘Home’ or ‘Away’ or ‘Draw’ selections
allowed.
i) POSTPONED OR ABANDONED MATCHES
An un-played or abandoned match will be treated as a ‘non-runner’ for settling purposes
unless it is played during the same football week Monday to Monday inclusive.
In which case the match will stand unless cancelled by mutual consent. If an
accumulator is reduced by ‘non runners’ the remaining selections will be settled
irrespective of the normal minimums. Any match which is abandoned before the
completion of 90 minutes play (full time) will be void with the remaining selections
settled irrespective of the normal minimum. This ruling applies to all lists with the
exception of bets involving ‘First Player to Score’ or ‘Time of First Goal’ where bets
will stand provided a goal has been scored at time of abandonment. In respect of
wagers placed on a ‘Half Time Coupon’ only, should the match be abandoned
before half time that particular match will be void. However should the match be
abandoned after half time the half time result will stand.
j) RE-ARRANGED MATCHES
In the event of a change of venue not published or not made known to us at the
time coupons are printed, bets will stand provided the venue is not switched to
the opponents ground, in which case selections for that match will be made void.
If a team plays a different opponent to the one printed on the coupon, that selection
will be void and the remaining selections will be settled irrespective of the
normal minimum. Where a customer has nominated a team to beat a different
opponent to that scheduled, the bet will stand for the selection’s scheduled match.
k) CORRECT SCORE BETTING
This is where you attempt to forecast the Correct Score in any of your selected
match(es). Singles and upwards are normally available on all matches where match
prices are available. Please see the reverse of our coupons for the correct score
prices which will apply unless otherwise advertised or indicated. Please note that
a different correct score chart applies for league matches as opposed to European
Club Cup Competitions and International matches – see chart or back of coupon
or ask the telephone operator. Correct Score doubles, trebles and accumulators
are also accepted. We accept a ‘Strike Lucky’ on football correct scores with all
normal bonuses/consolations being paid. No bonuses/ consolations are paid on
any other football selections on a Strike Lucky.
l) DOUBLE RESULT (Half Time/Full Time Betting)
With this bet you are required to forecast the result at Half Time and Full Time. In
the event a match is abandoned at any stage, all Half Time/Full Time bets will be
void. Double Result, doubles, trebles and accumulators are also accepted.
m) FIRST/LAST PLAYER TO SCORE
With this bet you have to forecast the first (or the last) player to score in a match.
We will endeavour to offer odds for all participants in major matches. Prices for
other players will be quoted on request and will therefore count as winners should
they score the first/last goal. Bets on players who do not take part in a match will
be void as will bets on ‘first/last goalscorer player where the selection comes on
after the first goal is scored. All players that take place in a match will be considered
‘runners’ for last player to score purposes. Should there be any doubt as to
whether a bet is intended for first/last player to score, in all cases it will be settled
on the first player to score. For First/Last Goalscorer purposes, own goals do not
count. First/Last Goalscorer doubles, trebles and accumulators are also accepted.
First Goalscorer – Each Way Betting
a) Singles & upwards accepted
b) The place part of each way bets will be settled at one half the odds on the
first, second and third goals. Players who do not score until after three
goals have been scored, will be settled as losing selections. However, where
one of the first three goals is an own goal then the bet will carry forward
to the fourth goals and two own goals to the fifth goal etc.
c) If less than three goals are scored then settlement will be based on the
actual goals scored. Where no goals are scored all each way bets will be
treated as losing selections.
d) Where a player scores the first goal, both the win and place part of the bet
are successful and will be settled at the appropriate win and place odds. If
the same player scores the second or third goal no additional winnings will
be paid.
e) Where a player scores the second or third goal, the place part of the bet
is successful. If the same player scores the second and third goals, no additional
winnings will be paid for the third goal.
f) Where the selection does not take part, or comes on after the first goal is
cored, both the win and place part of the bet will be void, unless the first
goal is an own goal, in which case bets stand.
g) Players that are substituted or sent off before the first goal is scored are
treated as losing selections in both the win and place part of the bet.
h) Each way bets on no goalscorer or last goal scorer are not accepted and if
taken in error will be settled “all up to win”, i.e. the total stake will be invested
as a win only bet.
i) Each-way selections are not accepted in first goalscorer/correct score doubles
and if taken in error will be settled “all up to win”.
j) Place only bets are not accepted and if taken in error will be settled as eachway
with the stake divided.
k) Own goals do not count
l) Extra time does not count
In the event of a dispute over who actually scored the first/last goal, settlement will
be based on the goalscorer declared by the Press Association. In regard to Italian
Matches, if the results sections of the national newspapers do not contain the
names of the goalscorers covered live on TV then settlement will be based on
information obtained from the Gazetta Dello Sport which is an Italian newspaper.
n) SCORECAST
This is a double where you forecast the first goalscorer and the correct score in
the same match. Bets will be settled at the special odds, shown on our screens or
printed on our special charts. If a player comes on after a goal has been scored or
does not take part in a game, bets involving that player will be settled as a single on
the selected correct score at the odds prevailing at the time. If the only goals in a
match are own goals, all bets will be settled as singles on the selected Correct Score
at the odds prevailing. If the match is abandoned after a goal has been scored all
bets will be settled as singles on the selected First Goalscorer at the current odds.
Where the name of the winning team has been omitted, with no qualifying price
laid, in all cases correct scores will stand for the selected First Goalscorer’s team.
e.g. A Scorecast Ronaldo/2-1 will be settled on Ronaldo to score the first goal and
Brazil to win 2-1. Last Goalscorer/Correct Score doubles are also accepted and will
be settled at the odds advertised for First Goalscorer/Correct Score doubles unless
a separate price has been quoted for the last goalscorer. Scorecasts are accepted
in singles, doubles, trebles and accumulators.
o) HANDICAP BETTING
This is where we offer special odds on a match(s) where one of the teams receive
one or more goals of a start. e.g. on the Rangers v Dunfermline match we may
offer odds giving Dunfermline a one goal start. To arrive at the “Handicap Result”
you simply add one goal to Dunfermline’s final score. You can still bet any result,
either Home, Away or Draw but you must ensure you mark your selections
“H/Cap” or ask for “Handicap” otherwise the normal 90 mins odds will apply. All
other football rules apply equally to Handicap Betting.
p) DIVISIONAL BETTING
League winners will be determined by the official rules of the respective league.
Therefore a play-off or any other process which is used to determine the league
winner will count. In divisional betting , with the exception of league winners
involved in a playoff, the finishing positions of teams at the end of the scheduled
programme of matches will determine places. No allowance will be made for relegation/
promotion play-offs or subsequent enquiries by the respective leagues.
q) AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL
Abandoned and postponed matches are void. Half-Time/Full Time betting and
Correct Scores are not accepted and any bets taken in error will be made void.
r) PERMS
Perms must be accompanied by clear instructions and any number of selections
without specific instructions will be settled as an accumulator. In perms stating
‘bankers’ all bankers must be clearly indicated.
s) COUPONS – OTHERS
We will normally accept any of our major competitor’s coupons (always subject
to our discretion) but covered by our own rules including maximum payouts. For
any eventuality not covered in our football rules the individual rules for the Top
Chance or Super Soccer will apply depending on which coupon your bet was
placed. If no coupon is designated then Super Soccer odds and rules will apply.
t) PRICE CHANGES
All prices printed on our midweek or weekend coupons or on offer on our
screens, board or computer systems are subject to fluctuation, with price changes
intimated across any of these mediums. Whilst we will also endeavor to draw customer’s
attention to any price change(s) we cannot be held responsible if for any
reason they fail to notice such changes. Telephone customers should always ask the
current price when placing a bet. All bets will be settled at the price(s) ruling at
the time the bet was placed.
OTHER SPORTS BETTING
26. GOLF
a) Outright Bets: In most tournaments prior to commencement, we bet 1/4 odds
the first five places but this is not guaranteed and you should enquire the exact
place structure when placing your bet. Once a tournament is in progress, different
place terms may apply and will normally change daily. A play-off will decide the
actual winner and where a tournament is decided by one it will govern settlement
of win bets. Dead heat rules will apply for placings. In outright tournament bets
should a player retire for whatever reason at any stage after commencing the tournament
then stakes on that player will be lost. Outright Betting: Stakes on players
who withdraw before a tournament starts will be refunded and no Tattersall’s rule
4 deduction will apply to winning bets.
b) Tournament Match Bets: The winner will be the player achieving the highest
placing at the end of a tournament. Should one golfer fail to make ‘the cut’ the
other golfer will be deemed the winner of the match. Should both golfers fail to
make ‘the cut’ the golfer with the lowest score will be the winner. Should both
golfers fail to make ‘the cut’ and both have identical scores the match will be settled
as a draw. Similarly should both golfers complete the official number of holes
and end up on the same score then the match will be a draw and settled accordingly.
If one player is disqualified, either prior to the completion of two rounds or
after both players have made the cut, the other player is deemed the winner. If a
player is disqualified during either the 3rd or 4th rounds, when his opponent has
already missed the cut, the disqualified player is deemed the winner. If both players
are disqualified the player progressing the furthest in the tournament will be
deemed the winner of the match.Where a draw price is quoted and a draw takes
place, clients betting either player will be on a loser. Where a draw price is not
quoted then dead heat rules apply in the event of a draw. Should any player fail
to start a match or complete at least 18 holes of the tournament, the match will
be made void and stakes refunded on both players.
c) Golf Groups/Top UK Player etc: The winner will be the player achieving the
highest placing at the end of a tournament. In the event that no member of the
group completes all the rounds the golfer who progresses furthest in the tournament
will be the winner. In the event that all the group are dismissed from the
tournament at the same stage then the golfer with the lowest score will be the
winner. Dead heat rules will apply in the event of a tie except where the winner
is determined by a play-off. Non-runner no bet, deductions on remaining selections
in line with Tattersalls’ Rule 4(c)
d) Golf 18 hole Match Betting: They are based over one round only with the
golfer with the lowest score deemed to be the winner unless it is a match-play
tournament where it is decided by holes won or lost. Should a player fail to start
a two ball match, all bets on that two ball will be made void and stakes refunded
on both players. All players must complete 18 holes, otherwise all bets on 2 or 3
ball pairing or any group are void. In the event of a 2 or 3 ball being rearranged,
bets will stand on the original pair or group. In 2 ball betting a price will be offered
for a tie. Dead heat rules will apply to 3 ball betting.
e) General Rules: Should a tournament be abandoned for whatever reason bets
will be settled on the official result providing at least one round has been played,
unless there is no further play after a bet has been laid in which case it will be void.
A player is deemed to have played once they have teed off. In the event of a player
withdrawing or being disqualified after having teed off, stakes will be lost on outright
and group betting and in the case of match betting when at least 18 holes
have been completed. However, 2 or 3 balls will be void unless the 18 holes are

either boxer will be lost.
c) Round by Round Betting: If for any reason a points decision is awarded before

settled on the round in which the fight was stopped. Bets which nominate ‘to win
on points’ will only be deemed to be winners only if the full number of rounds has
been completed.
d) If a boxer withdraws during the period between rounds, the fight will be
deemed to be won in the previous round. If for any reason the number of scheduled

through our computer and a receipt issued giving you our name, the race time,
selection, price laid, place details if applicable and expected return. You should
check this receipt immediately after placing your bet and satisfy yourself that all is
correct before the race commences. You will appreciate we cannot entertain
claims that the wrong stake or selection is printed on the ticket.after the race has
commenced. Notices displayed on our joint indicate whether or not we are
accepting win or each-way bets for that particular race. Similarly, the minimum
stake we accept, size of bets laid/maximum payout and any other relevant information
is also clearly displayed. Clients should place a bet by calling out the number
and the stake details. All bets accepted at any Racecourse are on the official
result only and no “double result” concession will apply. We reserve the right to
rectify palpable errors immediately they come to our attention.
b) Football Grounds - All bets are accepted subject to our rules governing football
betting – see rule 25 and where not covered there, by our general rules of
betting. The process for Watsons accepting cash bets involves the slip or coupon
being processed & numbered on the cash register where installed. Alternatively, a
pre-numbered coupon receipt will be issued. The bets are then validated by being
processed through a scanner & computer. Our staff are instructed not to hand
both copies of any bet back to the customer under any circumstances and were
this to happen the bet will be deemed not to have been accepted. Any attempt
by a customer to tamper with the bottom part of any bet may invalidate the bet.
In the event there is any dispute over the time any bet was placed or whether it
was placed at all, then the time at which the wager was correctly processed
through the scanner & computer will govern settlement. Should Watsons be unable
to locate the top part of any bet and/or validate it’s authenticity in the scanner & computer
then the bet has not been accepted by Watsons. Accordingly any subsequent
claim for payment will be refused.

judge to be a related bet then the stake will be split and applied equally
to each selection, e.g. in football, shirt nos. and total match goals in the same

bet details, otherwise the bet will stand, providing we are satisfied as to the intended
instructions, and conditional upon these instructions being acceptable to us and
within the appropriate credit limit where applicable. All calls are recorded for the

result in the Debit Card Authority declining our request for funds which may render
the intended bet void. We may advise you from time to time that your card will
shortly expire. All bets are accepted subject to the relevant Debit Card acceptance
procedures. Where immediate authorisation cannot be obtained from the Debit
Card Authority, the bet may be accepted subject to subsequent authorisation being

effort to contact you to make you aware of this at the earliest opportunity and in
the case of winning bets, we reserve the right to withhold any returns until we are
satisfied the stake monies have been secured. If the bet is lost then you will require

to ensure sufficient funds are available in their account at the time the bet is made.

the reason why, as no details about a customer’s account are given at any
time to Watsons by the Bank concerned. The minimum stake per telephone call is

in the account. Customers should keep an accurate check on the status of
their deposit account as the onus is on the customer to ensure they have a balance
in their account. Monies will be deducted from your deposit account whenever
a bet is placed, including for Ante-Post bets. When the balance of a deposit
account is insufficient to cover a requested bet then bets will be settled in
sequence to acceptance and finally in proportion to available funds. If, however,
